Picture Books

Research

Although her projects have so far led her down the path of books for teenagers, Nathalie dreams of exploring picture books for younger children.

Would you like to see what this might look like?

Here are some fictional projects to give you an idea…

Black and White illustrations

Illustrated Children’s Novel

Although most of her published books are in color, Nathalie primarily designs in black and white.

According to her, working on illustrations without relying on the emotional power of colors allows her to create stronger images.

Just because an illustration is in black and white doesn’t mean it has to be boring!

Color Illustrations

12 years and older

Author and illustrator of several notable children’s books in Quebec, Nathalie Lagace’s work is designed to provoke reflection and discussion.

Recognized and rewarded for the strength of her images, the line of her graphite pencils is guided by metaphorical and symbolic figures of style, resulting in surrealist images that, as if by magic, transcend a striking sweetness of truth.

Her motto: “With kindness, benevolence, and empathy, all subjects can be addressed!”

Visual Art

Although it all started with painting, it is her surrealist works, created with graphite pencils, that have made her stand out. Sponsored by Koh-I-Noor USA, she has specialized in this medium for over ten years now. Her works have been exhibited in several galleries, including LA LUZ DE JESUS GALLERY in Los Angeles and ARCH ENEMY ARTS GALLERY in Philadelphia, and have also been featured in HI-FRUCTOSE and BEAUTIFUL DECAY Magazines.

Influenced by urban art with impactful messages, Nathalie likes to gently shake the viewer. She creates using positive and negative waves—between poetry, metaphor, and symbolism—to envelop the viewer in an enigmatic energy. But whether one is ready to dive into a process of reflection or prefers to linger on the technique and enjoy the whimsical side of some of her compositions, there is something for everyone.

She also loves to embrace simplicity and pay homage to nature using a traditional technique for a realistic rendering.

A few words about the artist

Graduated in graphic design from Cégep du Vieux Montréal, Nathalie Lagacé took her first steps into the professional world as a television designer. However, her desire to take on challenges led her to leave her office routine to become a bus driver. An adventure full of twists and turns, but above all, a revealing moment: she can’t live without creating.

Since then, she has devoted herself to the marriage of words and images, favouring themes where equality, empathy, self-respect, and respect for others are treated with finesse and kindness. Under a delicate and poetic writing, she accompanies her texts with enveloping illustrations, images that often move — gently — because of their astonishing incongruity and the strong message they carry.

A perfectionist at heart, everything she touches is done with professionalism and passion. Awarded multiple times for the beauty and quality of her work, Nathalie Lagacé is a talented creator who will not leave you indifferent!
